R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. has undertaken a number of health-related research projects over the past 15 years.  Municipal and provincial organizations have contracted the Company to conduct a variety of projects such as the following:
  • Consultation and Framework for Tobacco Reduction Programs Among Young Adults in Alberta (2003)
    The firm was recently contracted by the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) to complete an assessment of the effectiveness of tobacco reduction programs on young adults in Alberta (18 to 24 years of age).  This study entails the use of focus groups (10 groups) and in-person interviews with young adults from all areas of the province.
  • Evaluation of the Rural Education Action Plan (2002)
    R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. evaluated the success of the Rural Education Action Plan in increasing professional and education opportunities for rural physicians, and in recruiting doctors/medical students to rural practice, on behalf of the BC Ministry of Health Planning.  Research activities included a review of programs in Canada and internationally used to promote education opportunities for rural physicians, a review of statistical and administrative data, in-person and telephone interviews, and site visits.
  • Substance Abuse and Gambling Impacts (2002–2003)
    R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. conducted a major study of the incidence and impact of drugs, alcohol and gambling on behalf of the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC).  As part of the study, the Firm completed surveys with over 2,800 employees, 750 employers and nearly 100 union representatives in Alberta.
  • Short and Long-Term Strategies and Recommendations for Planning for Canada’s Aging Populations
    National study on planning for Canada’s aging population, including health planning issues.  Project undertaken on behalf of the Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat on Behalf of the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers Responsible for Seniors Working Group.
  • Quality of Life Survey
    A project done for the University of Calgary Centre for Health and Policy Studies in which approximately 2,500 individuals will be surveyed concerning social support, health status, health care and related issues.
  • CARDUP Survey (2002)
    R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. was contracted by the Canadian Association of Registered Ultra-Sound Professionals to undertake a national survey of ultra-sound professionals to identify human resource issues, certification and professional development issues.  The survey was conducted in both official languages using both mail-out and telephone survey administration.
  • Analysis of Key Findings of Alberta's Primary Health Care Pilot Projects (2000-2001)
    R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. was commissioned by Alberta Health and Wellness to review 27 primary health care projects funded under the Health Transition Fund to identify system-wide successes and challenges.  A key element of this project was to prepare communications materials for dissemination of the key findings of the pilot projects.
  • Evaluation of the Student Health Initiative (1999-2001)
    The Firm was retained by Alberta Learning and Alberta Health and Wellness to complete a formative evaluation of an innovative multi-department student health initiative which entailed the evaluation of local "partnerships" consisting of school boards, health authorities, mental health services and early childhood services to deliver integrated health services to Alberta school-aged children.
