R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. has undertaken a variety of environmental research projects over the last decade.  Projects have included public opinion polls, surveys and case studies in the following areas:
  • Environmental Labour Market Study
    National labour market study of individuals employed in environmental fields in Canada, done on behalf of the Canadian Council for Human Resources in the Environmental Industry.
  • Demand Side Management (DSM) Program Evaluation
    Projects included evaluating programs that targeted or promoted energy efficiency and reviewing the effectiveness of various DSM pilot projects.
  • Recycling Surveys
    Involved determining regional participation in and satisfaction with residential recycling programs, obtaining additional information about other recycling/waste reduction practices used by households and making recommendations for program enhancements.
  • Water Efficiency Surveys
    Survey to determine public practices, knowledge and attitudes with respect to water use, conservation and supply expansion.
  • Waste Reduction and Waste Management Studies
    Such studies involved obtaining information pertaining to the availability and development of waste reduction guides or codes of practices from various private and public sector organizations throughout British Columbia, Canada and the United States.  Additional research was done to develop a process for uncovering potentially contaminated sites and producing a training guide for further site classification.
  • Wildlife Conservation Surveys
    Involved analyzing issues related to habitat conservation, wildlife management practices and regulations covering the hunting of selected species.
  • Public Opinion Survey Concerning the Environment (2002)
    Survey of households about environmental practices and perceptions concerning composting, hazardous household wastes, pesticides and source control.
R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. is committed to reducing the amount of office waste produced during operations and encourages recycling amongst its employees.  The Consultant's offices are equipped with virtual office computer networking capabilities such as internal e-mail and electronic file-sharing to reduce the use of new paper products, and the company has initiated programs to ensure reuse of non-confidential paper materials, collection of all recyclable garbage and composting within its offices.

In July 1998, R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. was presented with the CRD Corporate Green Bonus Award in recognition of their contribution to solid waste reduction in the Capital Regional District (Victoria).
